The U.S. Department of Agriculture is raising awareness for home ownership programs to help people in rural, Tribal and underserved regions as part of Home Ownership Month.

According to a news release, the programs will help people in small communities areas to afford or renovate affordable homes and to pay their rent.

“Rural America is a place everyone can call home,” USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack said, according to the release. “Whether you own or rent a home, you’re invested in and connected to the place you live. While homeownership is a good fit for many, renting also helps people invest in their communities and build wealth for their families and generations to come. This kind of support is critical now more than ever, as people in rural communities face rising housing costs. Through single family, multi-family, rental assistance, home repair and other programs, USDA Rural Development is here to improve rural livability across the United States.”

Homeownership strengthens communities and is a form of wealth that can increase the resiliency and quality of life for households and communities, the release reported.

The Biden administration has invested approximately $26 billion through USDA Rural Development’s single family housing programs to help almost 150,000 households in rural and Tribal communities build, repair and buy homes, according to the release.
