Rodgers and Guthrie Statement on 2022 Medicare Trustees Report

Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Health Subcommittee Republican Leader Brett Guthrie (R-KY) released the following statement regarding the 2022 Medicare Trustees Report.

“The Medicare Trustees are warning us that Medicare remains on the brink of insolvency within the next 6 years. We need to make sure seniors can access the care they need and rely on. Their financial security and quality of life is already being hurt enough by historic part B premium increases and record high inflation fueled by President Biden’s radical spending. It’s imperative that we act swiftly to protect this program for seniors of today and for Medicare patients of tomorrow.

“Unfortunately, instead of a plan to address this looming crisis, President Biden is doubling down on the radical Democrat agenda of a complete government takeover of our health care system with Medicare for All. It’s also disappointing that the President insists on using socialist drug pricing controls to fund Obamacare and other government programs besides Medicare. His agenda is irresponsible, will fail to meet patients’ needs, and will make this urgent insolvency crisis even worse. For seniors today and future generations, we must work to strengthen, modernize, and preserve Medicare in a meaningful and bipartisan way.”
