As more people look toward Electric Vehicles, the Biden Administration wants to make sure the batteries can be charged in an easy, accessible, reliable, and quick way in areas across the country.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration recently announced proposed rules which would provide "minimum standard and requirements for projects funded under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula program, according to a press release.
"President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides states with both the funding and framework to build out a reliable caring network that gives more people the confidence they need to buy and use electric vehicles to travel from east to coast and every state in between," Stephanie Pollack, Deputy Federal Highway Administrator, said in a press release.
The release noted that the rules would create a standard for projects that use federal money to build electric vehicle charging stations around the country. As the EV charging network continues to expand the DOT wants to ensure consumers can trust that they will receive a quality service wherever they need to charge their vehicle.
The rule would also "ensure a unified network of charges with similar payment systems, pricing information, charging speeds, and more," the release stated.
President Biden previously set a goal to have 500,000 electric vehicle chargers built as part of a national network in the next eight years, according to the release.
