The United States welcomes the adoption of the UNITAMS mandate renewal, starting another year for UNITAMS to support Sudan’s democratic transition.
We voted for this mandate renewal to ensure the valuable work of UNITAMS to support the security and stability of Sudan continues, such as the ongoing Sudanese-led dialogue which is facilitated by UNITAMS, the AU, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development in East Africa.
Rapid progress on this dialogue is critical to restore a civilian-led transitional government. We strongly encourage all Sudanese civilian and military actors to engage.
We continue to stand with the people of Sudan in their pursuit of a democratic and prosperous nation, and call on security forces to end the use of violence against protestors and respect human rights.
