Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $723,935 grant to the city of South Sioux City, Nebraska, to make critical infrastructure improvements needed to facilitate the growth of industry in the region.
This grant will support construction of new roadway, water, and sewer infrastructure needed to accommodate expanded commercial use of an existing business subdivision. The EDA investment will be matched with $723,935 in local funds and is expected to create or retain 60 jobs, according to grantee estimates.
“The Economic Development Administration plays an important role in helping communities implement their plans to provide the vital infrastructure that businesses need to be successful,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This EDA investment will help establish the critical infrastructure needed to meet South Sioux City’s commercial needs and accommodate future growth.”
This project was made possible by the regional planning efforts led by the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO). EDA funds SIMPCO to bring together the public and private sectors to create an economic development roadmap to strengthen the regional economy, support private capital investment and create jobs.
