San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents disrupted two separate smuggling events on May 19.
The first failure to yield occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. A Border Patrol Agent assigned to the Brown Field Border Patrol Station attempted to conduct a vehicle stop near Melody Road and California State Route Highway 94. When the agent activated emergency lights and sirens, the vehicle failed to yield and attempted to flee.
Nearby Border Patrol Agents arrived and successfully deployed a vehicle immobilization device. As a result of their efforts, the fleeing vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Highway 94 and Lyons Valley Road. Once they stopped the vehicle, agents found and apprehended six undocumented non-citizens illegally present in the U.S.
There were no injuries or damage reported during the encounter.
Later that night, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Border Patrol Agents assigned to the El Cajon Border Patrol Station attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on a blue Lexus. The vehicle failed to yield and attempted to flee from agents. At approximately 9:37 p.m., agents reported that the vehicle rolled over on Highway 94.
Upon further investigation, agents discovered five subjects and a handgun inside the vehicle. After an assessment of all the subjects in the rollover, agents determined that three were U.S. citizens (USC) and the two other individuals were Mexican nationals that had illegally entered the U.S. Record checks on the vehicle also returned with a stolen vehicle alert.
The vehicle’s driver was determined to be a juvenile United States Citizen. One of the individuals involved in the rollover was evaluated by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and transported to a local hospital. The three USC will be presented for state and federal prosecution.
For both smuggling incidents Border Patrol processed all subjects accordingly.
