Agricultural producers who did not receive the 2017 census or other U.S. Department of Agriculture surveys or censuses have less than two weeks to sign up for the 2022 Census of Agriculture.
Those who respond securely online by the June 30 deadline can expect to receive agriculture census survey codes in the mail from USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service in November, according to a June 2 news release. Hard copy questionnaires will be mailed the following month.
"The Census of Agriculture is a collective voice that tells the story and value of American agriculture," NASS Census and Survey Division Director Barbara Rater said in the news release. "The data influence action and inform policy and program decisions that directly impact producers, their operations and everyone they touch – and that’s all of us. This is why a complete count, with every producer getting and taking the opportunity to be represented in these data, is so important."
The Census of Agriculture has been conducted in the U.S. for more than 180 years and "remains the only source of comprehensive and impartial agricultural data for every state and county in the nation," the news release said.
The Census of Agriculture, carried out every five years, is intended to be a complete count of ranches and farms, as well as those who operate them, in the U.S. The census includes large, small, urban, rural and other operations from which agriculture product produces and sold for $1,000 and more, or would normally be produced and solve, in a given census year, according to the release.
NASS webpage includes frequently asked questions, past and current agricultural census data. Anyone who would like to sign up for the 2022 Census of Agriculture may do so from the website.
