The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has recognized more than 200 employees at the Secretary’s Awards Ceremony at Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters.

The Department of Homeland Security Secretary’s Award is an annual event that honors a combination of the extraordinary, individual and collective achievements throughout the department's workforce.

The ceremony includes eight award categories that recognize achievements during the past year. This year the DHS plans to hold several ceremonies across the United States honoring almost 900 employees.

"There is no higher calling than public service," Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said on June 16. “The personnel throughout our department give so much of themselves to keep our communities safe and to better the lives of others. The individuals we recognize exemplify the best of our department and the best of public service. I am grateful for their service to our nation and proud to recognize their extraordinary accomplishments.”

Other officials expressed pride in the employees.

“We are proud to host [this] ceremony that recognizes our fellow department colleagues who go beyond the call of duty, responding in extraordinary ways to the challenges of protecting the homeland," ICE's Acting Deputy Director Patrick Lechleitner said in a news release.
