El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a United States citizen, apprehended four undocumented individuals and seized a firearm, Tuesday evening.
At approximately 5 p.m., a grey 2017 Honda Civic approached the Highway 111 immigration checkpoint. The agent inspecting vehicles in the primary lanes referred the vehicle to secondary inspection.
At secondary inspection, agents questioned the driver and the four passengers as to their citizenship. Agent determined that the driver was a United States citizen, and three individuals were Mexican nationals, and one was a citizen of Guatemala, who did not possess the proper documentation to be legally present in the U.S. All occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest. In an immediate search of the vehicle agents discovered a Glock 27 handgun, reported stolen out of Las Vegas, Nevada, hidden on the floorboard behind the driver seat.
All individuals were transported to the Indio Border Patrol station. The four passengers were processed for removal from the United States; the 26-year-old male driver will face federal charges.
The vehicle and firearm will be seized as per El Centro Sector guidelines.
