The U.S. Departments of Labor and Commerce joined forces and released the Good Jobs Principles, which is a coordinated effort to aid employers, workers, federal agencies, state and local governments and other advocates.
The Good Jobs Principles provide a roadmap to further the goal of quality jobs for every worker, according to a June 21 Department of Labor news release. Elements outlined include "recruitment and hiring, pay and benefits, job security and career advancement, collective bargaining rights and working conditions."
"To stay competitive America needs a workforce that is strong, skilled, empowered and inclusive,” Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh said in the release. “Working with our partners in the Department of Commerce, we can develop the essential elements of a good job that will help us create a more equitable and fairer workforce and grow our economy.”
Workers become empowered to seek better opportunities as the economy rebuilds, Walsh said, according to the release. Employers are reportedly seeking workers with the skills needed as they look for the right tools to attract and retain that talent.
Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said creating jobs has been a Biden-Harris administration top priority since day one, the release reported.
“Not only have we created a historic 8 million jobs but just as importantly, we have worked tirelessly to ensure Americans are returning to high-quality jobs that provide security and stability for American families while encouraging employers to recruit, train, and retain workers who can help their businesses flourish,” she said, according to the release.
