The Transportation Security Administration is getting ready for summer travel out of the San Antonio International Airport.
TSA revealed it is prepared to handle an increase in the number of travelers who will be flying out of San Antonio International Airport, in addition to other airports throughout South Texas, according to a June 28 news release. The anticipated travel volume will pick up this month and throughout the summer.
"We have started to see increased traveler volume at airport security checkpoints," TSA's Federal Security Director for San Antonio Jes Presas said in the release. “Travel volume here at SAT is at almost 100% percent of pre-pandemic levels and regionally it’s at the same percentage. Nationally we expect to see travel rebound to near or above pre-pandemic levels this summer. It is likely that airports in South Texas will be busier than we’ve seen in a long time.”
Other regional officials commented on the situation and also on what is being done to prepare for it as well, according to the release.
“San Antonio is a top tourist destination and also one of the fastest growing cities in the country, so we are already experiencing high volumes of traffic, and we are preparing for an even higher increase of summer travelers," Jesus H. Saenz Jr., San Antonio Airport System director of airports, said in the release. "We want passengers to have the best experience while at the San Antonio International Airport and we are ready to assist.”
