SPRINGFIELD, MA-House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement marking the second anniversary of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) entering into force:
“In the two short years since the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement entered into force, the labor protections, enforcement mechanisms, and environmental provisions that Congressional Democrats vehemently fought for have begun to profoundly change the lives of workers. For the first time, workers are protected by the Labor Rapid Response Mechanism. Already, those who used the mechanism were able to negotiate fair wages and better working conditions.
“USMCA has been a beacon for not only what Congress can achieve when we work together and in close concert with the administration, but also for what’s possible for future U.S. trade deals. Effective trade policy is grounded in the collaboration between Congress and the Executive Branch, and the Ways and Means Committee stands ready to continue expanding what’s possible with the Biden Administration."
