Conyers: Let’s Use Our Time with Ag Lynch to Focus on Substantive Issues That Impact Our Nation

The following press release was published by the House Committee On The Judiciary on July 11, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) issued the following statement in anticipation of tomorrow’s U.S. Department of Justice oversight hearing with U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch:

“There are just four legislative days left before we break for a seven-week recess. There are a number of substantive issues that we should be using that time to address - such as gun violence, voting rights, national security, and the relationship between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve, just to name a few. Each of us should use our five minutes with the United States Attorney General to discuss a topic that has a direct impact on our Nation.

“I hope we can have a substantive debate tomorrow. We certainly need one. Focusing the conversation on Secretary Clinton’s email is a gesture that will do little to help our constituents. It is a matter that the Department of Justice and the FBI have already closed."
