The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorneys on Sept. 17, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Hermosa, South Dakota, woman convicted of Misprision of a Felony was sentenced on Sept. 16, 2013, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.

Doreen Amiotte, age 48, was sentenced to 24 months of probation, a $500 fine, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Amiotte was indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 16, 2013, and pled guilty to Misprision of a Felony on May 31, 2013.

The conviction arose from an incident that took place on Nov. 26, 2012, when Amiotte failed to report in a timely manner that a federal inmate, who was out on funeral furlough, could not be located. The inmate absconded from the funeral between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Amiotte did not report the escape until after 4:30 p.m.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie Ruettgers.
