Monty D. Hamson, 44, and Denise A. Huston, 40, both of Mt. Vernon, IL, were indicted on April 8, 2014, on methamphetamine related charges in a four count Indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Benton, Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today.
Count 1 charges that from May 2010, until on or about Feb. 19, 2014, in Jefferson County, Hamson and Huston conspired to knowingly and intentionally manufacture methamphetamine.
Count 2 charges that on Feb. 19, 2014, in Jefferson County, Hamson and Huston knowingly and intentionally possessed equipment, chemicals, products, or materials which may be used to manufacture methamphetamine, knowing, intending, and having reasonable cause to believe, that those items would be used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Count 3 charges that on February 4, 2014, in Jefferson County, Huston knowingly and intentionally distributed methamphetamine.
Count 4 charges that from March 2010, to Feb. 11, 2014, in Jefferson County, Huston knowingly and intentionally possessed pseudoephedrine, knowing and having reasonable cause to believe that the pseudoephedrine would be used to manufacture methamphetamine.
With respect to Count 1, each defendant faces up to 20 years imprisonment, up to $1,000,000 fine, and supervised release of at least 3 years.
With respect to Count 2, each defendant faces up to 10 years imprisonment, up to $250,000 fine, and supervised release of up to 3 years.
With respect to Count 3, Huston faces up to 20 years imprisonment, up to $1,000,000 fine, and supervised release of at least 3 years.
With respect to Count 4, Huston faces up to 20 years imprisonment, up to $250,000 fine, and supervised release of up to 3 years.
An Indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Joint Narcotics Unit of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney George Norwood.
