POCATELLO - Dulton Earl Johnson, 23, of Fort Hall, Idaho, pleaded guilty yesterday to assault resulting in serious bodily injury, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Johnson was indicted by a federal grand jury on Sept. 10, 2013.
According to court documents, from July 30, 2013, to Sept. 2, 2013, Johnson lived with a woman and several of her minor children in Fort Hall. During that time period, Johnson physically assaulted the woman’s nineteen-month-old daughter on multiple occasions. The assaults resulted in eleven different bone fractures or other serious injuries. The injuries were ultimately discovered when the infant was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah for surgery on the most recent fracture. In an interview with law enforcement officers, Johnson admitted to causing the injuries.
Johnson’s charge is punishable by up to ten years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and three years of supervised release.
Sentencing is set for Nov. 19, 2014, before Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill at the federal courthouse in Pocatello.
The case was investigated by the Fort Hall Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
