Kinmundy Man Sentenced to 84 Months on Firearm Charge

Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that James C. Riley, 44, of Kinmundy, Illinois, was sentenced in federal district court in East St. Louis for the crime of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Riley was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison, to be followed by 3 years’ supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $300. The charge relates to Riley’s possession of four firearms in April, 2009, at his home in Kinmundy, and his sale of the four firearms in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, in April, 2009. Riley was previously convicted of Retail Theft, in violation of Illinois State law on Oct. 13, 2004, in Ogle County, Illinois.

The case was investigated by members of the Illinois Secretary of State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
