Jury Finds a Convicted Felon Guilty of Possessing a Firearm and Ammunition

TULSA, Okla.-On Tuesday, a federal jury found Phillip Lamont Morgan, 40, guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced Danny C. Williams Sr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma. United States District Court Judge James H. Payne will sentence Morgan on Jan. 17, 2016.

On Sept. 28, 2013, Morgan was stopped by a Tulsa Police officer for committing traffic violations on his bicycle. Morgan then gave a false name, date of birth and social security number to the officer. Morgan became physical with the officer after the officer tried to prevent Morgan from reaching into his left pants pocket. Other Tulsa police officers assisted in taking Morgan into custody. After being taken into custody, Morgan was searched and a loaded revolver was found in his left pants pocket.

Prior to this offense, Morgan had been convicted of multiple felonies. Morgan was previously convicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the Northern District of Oklahoma on Oct. 15, 2003.

This case was investigated by the Tulsa Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorneys Neal C. Hong and Timothy L. Faerber prosecuted the case.
