Columbia, South Carolina ---- United States Attorney Beth Drake stated today that Kenneth Andrew Generette, age 30, of Johnsonville, pled guilty on Monday in federal court in Florence to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribution of 100 grams or more of heroin, a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Section 846. United States District Judge R. Bryan Harwell of Florence, accepted the plea and will impose sentence after he has reviewed the presentence report which will be prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
The evidence presented at the guilty plea hearing established that the Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted an investigation of individuals distributing heroin in the Hemingway and Johnsonville areas of South Carolina. During the investigation, Generette was identified as a heroin supplier in the area. As part of the investigation, FCSO investigators made two controlled purchases of a quantity of heroin from Generette. In October 2016, Generette was arrested on a federal arrest warrant. During his arrest, officers found an additional quantity of heroin in the home where Generette was residing.
Ms. Drake stated the defendant faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of $5,000,000.
The case was investigated by agents with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant United States Attorney Chris Taylor of the Florence office handled the case. ##
