Philadelphia Felon Charged With Possession Of A Firearm

Omar Meares, 28, of Philadelphia was charged today by Indictment[1] with being a felon in possession of a firearm announced Acting United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen. The indictment charges that Meares possessed a Colt, Police Positive MK V,.38 Special caliber revolver, bearing serial number RD1155, which was loaded with six (6) live rounds of.38 caliber ammunition, on Jan. 23, 2017, in Philadelphia, after having been convicted of a felony.

If convicted, Meares faces a maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, three years’ supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.

This case has been investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Philadelphia Police Department. The case has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
