Portland, Maine: Acting United States Attorney Richard W. Murphy announced that Nicholas Coy, 32, of Lewiston, Maine, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court by Judge George Z. Singal to six years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm.
According to court records, on Dec. 12, 2016, Lewiston police officers responding to a 911 call at an apartment on Knox Street encountered Coy behaving irrationally and appearing to be under the influence of a controlled substance. While inside the apartment, the police recovered a handgun belonging to Coy. Coy was prohibited from possessing firearms based on prior felony convictions for robbery, aggravated assault and theft.
The case was investigated by the Lewiston Police Department; the U.S. Marshals Service; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
