MADISON, WIS. -- Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Christopher Curry, 39, Madison, Wis. was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to four years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine on Feb. 24, 2017.
Curry pleaded guilty to this charge on Aug. 24, 2017, but as part of the federal sentencing process, his involvement in numerous other acts of distribution of both crack cocaine and MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly, was also considered. His prison term is to be followed by a three-year period of supervised release.
Curry was originally indicted by a federal grand jury on March 8, 2017, for 10 counts of distribution of controlled substances dating back to November of 2015. Judge Peterson expressed concern for the safety of the public given the often inherent violence that accompanies drug trafficking. In finding that a sentence of four years was necessary and appropriate for Curry’s conduct, Judge Peterson took particular note of Curry’s age, long criminal history, and past violent offenses.
Co-defendant JonPaul Dotson was sentenced on October 13 to time served and three years of supervised release. Co-defendant Jonathan Britton was sentenced yesterday to four years in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. On Oct. 24, co-defendant Jesse Pennington pleaded guilty to one count of distributing Ecstasy and is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 25, 2018.
The charge against Christopher Curry was the result of an investigation conducted by the Dane County Narcotics Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Anderson.
