A woman who possessed methamphetamine was sentenced Nov. 2, 2017, to more than three years in federal prison.
Nicole Maxine Ramirez, 30, from Sioux City, Iowa, received the prison term after a July 18, 2017, guilty plea to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
At the guilty plea, Ramirez admitted she possessed more than 27 grams of pure methamphetamine. On Oct. 12, 2016, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop of Ramirez’s vehicle on Interstate 29 near Sioux City. Officers searched the vehicle and located 37.6 grams of methamphetamine mixture. Ramirez admitted she had purchased the methamphetamine and intended to sell the methamphetamine to other person(s).
Ramirez was sentenced in Sioux City by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand. Ramirez was sentenced to 43 months’ imprisonment. A special assessment of $100 was imposed. She must also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. Ramirez is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until she can be transported to a federal prison.

Steenholdt and investigated by the Tri-State Drug Task Force based in Sioux City, Iowa, that consists of law enforcement personnel from the Drug Enforcement Administration; Sioux City, Iowa, Police Department; Homeland Security Investigations; Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office; South Sioux City, Nebraska, Police Department; Nebraska State Patrol; Iowa National Guard; Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; United States Marshals Service; South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation; and Woodbury County Attorney’s Office.
