MADISON, WIS. - Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Mitrel Y. Anderson, 30, La Crosse, Wis., pleaded guilty yesterday before Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
At the plea hearing, Anderson admitted to taking part in a drug deal on Nov. 17, 2016, involving approximately three ounces of methamphetamine in Centerville, Trempealeau County, Wis. Unbeknownst to Anderson, the potential buyer was an undercover law enforcement officer, and Anderson was arrested at the scene before the deal could be completed.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 20, 2018. Anderson faces a statutory minimum sentence of five years and up to 40 years in prison, a minimum four-year period of supervised release, and monetary penalties.
The charge against Anderson was investigated by the Trempealeau County Sherriff’s Office and the Independence Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Darren C. Halverson and David J. Reinhard.
