Orange County Deputy Sheriff Charged With Receiving Child Pornography

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorneys on April 20, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Orlando, Florida - A federal criminal complaint has been filed charging Kevin Michael Hutchinson (36, Orlando) with receipt of child pornography. If convicted, he faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 5 years, and up to 20 years, in federal prison. Hutchinson made his initial appearance in court earlier today and has been detained pending the outcome of the case.

According to the, Hutchinson initially distributed child pornography via a mobile messaging application. Then, hours before a federal search warrant was executed at his home yesterday, he received multiple images and videos of child pornography via the internet.

A criminal complaint is merely a formal charge that a defendant has violated one or more of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.

This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn P. Napier.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
