SHREVEPORT, La. - United States Attorney David C. Joseph announced that a Shreveport felon was sentenced Thursday to 24 months in prison for possessing a pistol he displayed on a social media video even though he was a convicted felon.
Tramarciea Jovan Ruffins, 24, of Shreveport, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. on one count of firearm possession by a convicted felon. He was also sentenced three years of supervised release. According to the Jan. 12, 2018 guilty plea, law enforcement discovered video of Ruffins on a social media site holding a black Glock pistol with a flashlight attached. Agents questioned Ruffins who said he took the weapon without permission from his cousin’s vehicle. The weapon was eventually found at a Shreveport pawnshop. The handgun was identified as a Glock, model 41Gen4,.45 caliber pistol. Ruffins is a previously convicted felon.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. Attorney General Jeff Sessions reinvigorated PSN in 2017 as part of the Department’s renewed focus on targeting violent criminals, directing all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to work in partnership with federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement and the local community to develop effective, locally-based strategies to reduce violent crime.
The ATF and Shreveport Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany E. Fields prosecuted the case.
