United States Attorney Richard W. Moore of the Southern District of Alabama announced that Misty Danielle Combs Bailey, a 35 year old resident of Selma, Alabama was sentenced to five years of probation after being convicted of Obtaining Controlled Substances by Fraud.
On Aug. 21, 2018, according to a factual statement Bailey signed in connection with her guilty plea, over a seven day period in February 2018, Bailey forged, or caused to be forged, 10 prescriptions made out to her as patient of a Selma area dentist and obtained quantities of hydrocodone and oxycodone. Bailey had access to the prescriptions as a patient of the dentist. On February 8, 2018, the dentist reported that one of his prescription pads had been stolen from his office. He stated that he believed that Bailey stole the prescription pad from his secretary’s desk. All prescriptions were presented to pharmacies located in the Selma, Alabama area. Bailey obtained approximately 125 hydrocodone tablets and approximately 80 oxycodone tablet during her week long fraudulent scheme.
Officers of the Selma, Alabama Police Department investigated the case and brought it to the U. S. Attorney's Office for prosecution. The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant United States Attorney, Gina S. Vann.
