NEW ORLEANS - U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser announced that OMAR ELI PEREZ-MURCIA (“MURCIA"), age 35, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2018 to a one-count indictment for illegal reentry of a removed alien in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
According to documents signed by the defendant and filed in open court, MURCIA admitted to being a citizen of Honduras, and being illegally present in the United States. He further admitted to illegally re-entering the United States after being deported in 2006. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2019 before U.S. District Judge Wendy B. Vitter.
U.S. Attorney Strasser praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter. Assistant U. S. Attorney Carter K. D. Guice, Jr. is in charge of the prosecution.
