NEW ORLEANS - U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser announced today that JUAN ALBERTO SANCHEZ-ROMERO, age 28, pleaded guilty on Oct. 29, 2019, to a one-count Indictment for illegal reentry of a removed alien in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a) & (b)(2).
According to the Indictment, SANCHEZ-ROMERO re-entered the United States after he was previously deported on April 21, 2016.
SANCHEZ-ROMERO faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of three years, and a mandatory $100 special assessment. U.S. District Court Judge Greg G. Guidry set sentencing for Jan. 28, 2020.
U.S. Attorney Strasser praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter. Assistant U. S. Attorney Spiro G. Latsis is in charge of the prosecution.
