Honduran National Sentenced For Illegal Re-Entry

NEW ORLEANS - U.S. Attorney Peter Strasser announced that LORENZO CRUZ NUNEZ-MENA (“MENA"), age 36, was sentenced on Oct. 3, 2019 to time served today to a one-count indictment for illegal reentry of a removed alien in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a). He was initially detained in May 2019 by authorities.

MENA, reentered the United States after he was previously deported on Sept. 19, 2014. MENA faced a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a fine of $250,000, a term of supervised release of one year, and a mandatory $100 special assessment.

U.S. Attorney Strasser praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter. Assistant U. S. Carter K. D. Guice, Jr. is in charge of the prosecution.
