Ways And Means’ Working Women Wednesday

A million American women left the workforce during the pandemic and can’t go back. Even before COVID, their workforce participation was significantly lower than that of men, unlike many of our peer countries. This lagging participation persisted in last week’s jobs report.

Why, you ask? The U.S. does not guarantee child care or paid leave and other supports for those caring for a child, a parent, or a loved one.

As Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI) pointed out in a recent hearing, this costs our economy $650 billion a year, and it costs many women their careers.

We want to hear from YOU!

Tell us what your daily lives look like without paid leave or child care, and why access is so important. If you have access, tell us how having these critical benefits has changed your life, allowed you to return to the workforce, care for parents, spouses or partners, children, and other loved ones, and more.
