WASHINGTON - Ranking Member Edward J. Markey (D-Mass), who was selected to lead the Democrats on the Natural Resources Committee in December, today announced subcommittee leaders and members in the 113th session of Congress. Rep. Markey welcomed back and commended those members returning to the committee for their efforts during the 112th Congress in opposing the Republican effort to roll back environmental protections, provide giveaways to Big Oil and special interests at the expense of the American taxpayer. Rep. Markey congratulated new members on joining a committee charged with the conservation and management of the natural, cultural and historic resources on land and at sea with which this nation has been blessed.
“Numerous polls show that Americans trust Democrats on energy and environmental issues. The Democrats who serve on this committee have the trust and interests of the American people in their minds and are determined to create clean energy jobs, combat the rising tides and raging fires of climate change, protect wildlife, and defend public lands, our oceans and the jobs that depend on them. Those are our top priorities," said Rep. Markey.
Rep. Markey also vowed to continue the Congressional investigation into the BP oil spill, noting that the Republican majority failed to force the CEOs of BP, Cameron, Halliburton and Transocean, the companies responsible for the spill and biggest environmental disaster in US history, to testify before Congress.
Today, Ranking Member Edward J. Markey announced Subcommittee Assignments for the Democratic members of the Natural Resources Committee.
