DEFAZIO STATEMENT ON THE PASSAGE OF THE “RAPID” ACT

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Natural Resources on March 6, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Committee Peter DeFazio (D-OR) issued the following statement after passage of the Republican “RAPID" Act, which will undermine key environmental protections and under the guise of infrastructure streamlining:

“The only thing that is ‘RAPID’ about this bill is how quickly it will be thrown in a Senate recycling bin. If the Republican majority was serious about speeding up construction on critical infrastructure projects, we’d be working to find long-term solutions to restore funding for the Highway Trust Fund and boost the Army Corps’ of Engineers budget. You cannot build a competitive, 21st century infrastructure without serious investment-a fact the Republicans ignore. This legislation is just another partisan, election year talking point that undermines critical public involvement opportunities and environmental protections."
