A $3.7 million American Rescue Plan grant from the Department of Commerce will enable Vicksburg, Mich., to update its wastewater treatment system to increase capacity for company expansion and commercial development.

The Economic Development Administration grant will get a $6.9 million local match and should create 200 jobs, retain another 150 jobs and generate $100 million in private investment, according to a July 20 news release.

“President Biden’s American Rescue Plan offers direct relief to American communities as they work to build a better America for the future,” Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in the release. “This EDA investment will provide critical infrastructure that will help attract private investment and create jobs in Vicksburg.”

Two commercial lots in Vicksburg’s Industrial Business Park will be developed in this project, which also will support the development of a 100-acre industrial-zoned lot and the redevelopment of a former paper mill facility, the release said.

“The Economic Development Administration is pleased to support locally-driven strategies to boost business recovery efforts in Michigan,” Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo said in the release. “The upgrades to Vicksburg’s wastewater treatment system that will be supported by this EDA grant will create new and exciting opportunities for the village and the region.”

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the grant that enables Vicksburg to upgrade its water infrastructure will work to create and retain 350 jobs and generate $100 million in private investment.
