The Mount Lewis Field Office is inviting public review and comment on the draft environmental impact statement for the proposed Gibellini Mine Project located 27 miles southeast of Eureka, Nevada. The mine would primarily produce the critical mineral vanadium and is the first critical mineral mine to progress to this stage under the Biden-Harris administration.
The publication of the Notice of Availability of the draft environmental impact statement in the Federal Register on July 22, 2022 starts the public comment period, which ends Sept. 6, 2022.
“The public review and comments received on the draft are critically important to ensuring we are meeting our obligation for the responsible development of public lands,” said Jon Sherve, Mount Lewis Field Office Manager.
The project area is in the southern extent of the Fish Creek Range, entirely on Federal land administered by the BLM in Eureka County, Nevada, and includes 6,456 acres of BLM-administered land with 806 acres of proposed surface disturbance. The mine would operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year for approximately 7 years and employ approximately 120 people.
