Top Republican on the House Committee on Ways and Means Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement on Thursday’s Bureau of Economic Analysis report on U.S. economic growth in the second quarter (GDP):

“I don’t know a president who drove an economy faster into the ground-and into a recession-than Joe Biden. This report shows zero percent growth for consumer spending and for home and business investment-the main drivers of economic growth-the weakest since the pandemic recession.

“After Democrats bungled the economy and failed to meet expectations in five of the last six quarters of economic growth, imposing the Schumer-Manchin tax hikes on our economy will only make things worse."
