Bureau of Land Management Vernal Field Office staff invite the public to attend an informational meeting and provide comments on a proposal for a sand quarry on BLM-managed public lands located east of Vernal, in Uintah County. A 30-day public scoping period will provide insight regarding potential sand extraction to help build roads, complete construction projects and for other uses to benefit present and future generations.
“Being good stewards of the land means listening to and educating the public on proposed projects,” said BLM Green River District Manager Lance Porter. “We are pleased to give members of the public an opportunity to provide their input and learn about the project.”
The Uinta Basin Sand LLC project proposal consists of extracting sand from existing mining claims. The proposal includes the establishment of the quarry, a reclamation schedule and a right-of-way for an existing road.
The public informational meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Uintah Conference Center, 313 East 200 South, Vernal, Utah.
The preliminary scoping document and other documents including maps, are available on the BLM ePlanning site at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2013629/510. Written comments will be accepted by letter or email until Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2022. Please note the most useful comments are specific and contain new technical or scientific information relevant to the project area. Please reference “Playa Sand Project” when submitting comments. Written comments may be mailed, emailed or submitted through ePlanning.
