The U.S. Department of Energy recently announced $26 million for the Solar and Wind Grid Services and Reliability Demonstration Program.
The program, funded by President Joe Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will support up to 10 projects meant to demonstrate the country's electric power grid's ability to properly function with solar, wind, energy storage and other clean energy sources, according to an Aug. 2 news release.
“Americans do not have to choose between a clean grid and a reliable one as we move forward towards our goals of a net-zero economy by 2050,” U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm said in the release. “Thanks to funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, DOE is proving that transitioning to solar, wind and other renewable energy sources can keep the lights on without service interruptions, while creating good paying jobs.”
The projects will provide data meant to back President Biden's goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2030 while also supporting grid reliability, the release reported.
"Solar + Wind + Energy storage = A strong electrical grid," the Department of Energy posted Aug. 2 on Twitter. "Our $26M from the Infrastructure Law will help demonstrate how renewable energy sources are the key to unlocking a grid running on 100% clean energy to power communities across the country."
