How politicians on Energy and Natural Resources Committee dealt with bills on Aug. 3

The Energy and Natural Resources Committee handled S.4752, S.4754, S.4755 bills on Aug. 3, according to the US Congress.

Bill S.4752 titled “A bill to require the Secretary of the Interior to prepare a programmatic environmental impact statement allowing for adaptive management of certain Federal land in Malheur County, Oregon, and for other purposes” was read twice and referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources by the Senate. The bill is sponsored by Sen. Ron Wyden.

Bill S.4754 titled “A bill to require the Secretary of Energy to conduct a study and submit a report on national resource adequacy, and for other purposes” was read twice and referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources by the Senate. The bill is sponsored by Sen. Mike Braun.

Bill S.4755 titled “A bill to amend the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976 to ensure that ranchers who have grazing agreements on national grasslands are treated the same as permittees on other Federal land” was read twice and referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources by the Senate. The bill is sponsored by Sen. John Thune.

The Energy and Natural Resources Committee moves forward in some way on one bill per day.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
