On July 28, 2022, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas met with Israeli Minister of Public Security Omer Bar Lev to discuss shared security priorities and sign a Declaration of Intent on Promoting Cooperation in Combating Illicit Finance, which includes the establishment of a joint working group to combat illicit financial networks. Secretary Mayorkas and Minister Bar Lev also discussed exchanging information on best practices regarding the protection of vulnerable communities, increasing cooperation on research and development projects, options for enhanced cooperation in the areas of firefighting and cybersecurity, and Israel’s progress towards meeting the eligibility requirements for entrance into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.
