Reclamation Issues Final Resource Management Plan and Environmental Assessment for Henry Hagg Lake

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on May 28, 2004. It is reproduced in full below.

The Bureau of Reclamation has completed a Resource Management Plan and Final Environmental Assessment for Henry Hagg Lake which will serve as a blueprint for management of the popular recreation site over the next 10 years.

Henry Hagg Lake is located in western Washington County, Oregon, approximately 30 miles southwest of the city of Portland.

The purpose of the RMP is to assure that natural and cultural resources and facilities, recreation, and access on Reclamation lands around the lake, which includes Scoggins Valley Park, are properly managed. Washington County is Reclamation's managing partner for the operation and maintenance of Scoggins Valley Park.

The Final EA also includes a Finding of No Significant Impact, indicating that implementing the Preferred Alternative would not result in significant impacts to the natural and human environment. The Preferred Alternative allows for a moderate amount of expansion and development of recreation sites and facilities along with efforts to enhance and protect the natural and cultural resources on Reclamation lands.

The plan discusses allowing the development of an environmental education and research center, the expansion of existing recreation sites, and a number of wildlife habitat and enhancement measures.

Preparation of the RMP and EA entailed a proactive public involvement and coordination effort, which incorporated substantial input from stakeholders with an interest in the area, including State, Federal, and local agencies; interest groups and organizations; and the general public.

Copies of the Finding of No Significant Impact, Environmental Assessment, or Resource Management Plan can be obtained from Reclamation at the contact listed below, or accessed via Reclamation's website at www.usbr.gov/pn. The Final Environmental Assessment is also available for review at public libraries in Forest Grove, Hillsboro, and Portland, Oregon, as well as at Reclamation's Portland Office and Washington County Facility Management Offices in Hillsboro and Scoggins Valley Park.
