Reclamation Completes Assessment Documents for Westland Irrigation District Boundary Adjustment

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on June 10, 2004. It is reproduced in full below.

The Bureau of Reclamation has released a Final Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed boundary adjustment of the Westland Irrigation District.

The Final EA presents the analyses of the impacts of alternatives to adjust the federally recognized Westland Irrigation District boundaries to match the State recognized boundaries. All comments received from the 30 day public review and comment period for the Draft EA were reviewed and considered by Reclamation during preparation of the Final EA. The Full Boundary Adjustment Alternative, which provides for a 10,337.8 acre adjustment, has been selected by Reclamation as the recommended alternative for implementation. The decision document for this action, the FONSI, concludes implementation of this alternative would have no significant impacts on the quality of the human environment or the natural resources of the area.

The Final EA and FONSI have been prepared to document environmental review and evaluation in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.

The Final EA and FONSI are available for viewing on the Internet at www.usbr.gov/pn. Printed copies are available for public review at libraries in Hermiston, Pendleton, and Stanfield, Oregon, and Reclamation offices in Hermiston and Portland, Oregon; Yakima, Washington; and Boise, Idaho.

A printed or CD-ROM copy of the Final EA/FONSI may be obtained by writing to the Bureau of Reclamation, Lower Columbia Area Office, Attention LCA-1000, 825 Multnomah Street, Suite 1110, Portland OR 97232-2135, or by fax to (503) 872-2797, or email to widpba@do.usbr.gov.
