Pedestrian Fishing Bridge Near Minidoka Dam to be Temporarily Closed for Construction

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on June 30, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

RUPERT, Idaho - The Bureau of Reclamation will be installing a permanent restroom near the pedestrian fishing bridge and paved parking lot adjacent to the south side of Minidoka Dam. The bridge and parking lot will be closed July 13 to July 16 for construction. Minidoka Dam is located on the Snake River about 18 miles northeast of Burley, Idaho.

"This new restroom will be a great addition to the recreation area near the dam, and installation is expected to take less than a week," said Minidoka Dam Facility Manager Philip Calogero. "Heavy equipment and overhead cranes will be used to install the new restroom, so access will be temporarily restricted for public safety."

With the recent completion of the new spillway, Reclamation was able to reopen traditional fishing and wading areas that were closed during the spillway construction period. Those areas will remain open during construction of the new restroom; however, visitors should park in the dirt parking lot the week of July 13 and be aware of their surroundings while walking in the access areas along the river.

A map for recreational access below the spillway can be viewed at:

Minidoka Dam was completed in 1907 as part of the Minidoka Project, and is operated as one of six storage facilities on the Snake and Henrys Fork rivers. The multipurpose project provides irrigation, power production, flood control, recreation, and fish and wildlife benefits.
