SONORA, Calif. - Starting tomorrow, the Bureau of Reclamation will begin a series of pulse flows from New Melones Dam into the Stanislaus River for flood control purposes.
The increased flows will be in the form of an upcoming 9-day controlled pulse schedule, with flows ranging from 700 cubic feet per second up to 2,600 cfs four times between Nov. 3 and Nov. 11. Flows will ramp down to 600 cfs by Nov. 11, the day of the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival.
Flows will peak at 2,400 cfs by noon on Friday, Nov. 3, then ramp back down before peaking at 2,600 cfs again at 6 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6. Another pulse flow will peak at 2,600 cfs at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, and a final pulse flow will peak at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9.
People recreating in or along the Stanislaus River downstream from New Melones Dam should take safety precautions with the increased flows.
