Reclamation seeks comment on proposed Hoover Dam Fiber Optic Cable Replacement Project

Boulder City, Nev. - The Bureau of Reclamation issued a Draft Environmental Assessment today for the Hoover Dam Fiber Optic Cable Replacement Project. The Draft EA describes Reclamation’s proposed replacement of approximately three miles of buried fiber optic cable and associated buried fiber optic cable boxes. The location of the proposed Project is in Boulder City, NV between the Boulder City Communications Tap Substation and U.S. Highway 93/Nevada Way near Colorado Street.

The cable replacement is needed to update the communication capability among Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Regional Office, Hoover Dam, and other Reclamation-managed dams on the Colorado River.

The Draft EA, which was prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, is available for public review and comment on Reclamation’s website at: https://www.usbr.gov/lc/region/g2000/envdocs.html. Comments must be postmarked by Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018. Please send written comments to the Bureau of Reclamation, Attn: Faye Streier, P.O. Box 61470, Boulder City, NV 89006.
