Reclamation Awards $1.49 Million Contract for Navajo Dam Gate and Valve Rehabilitation

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on Sept. 13, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

DURANGO, COLO. - The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $1.49 million contract to Unico Mechanical of Benicia, California, for rehabilitation of Navajo Dam gates and valves. Navajo Dam is located on the San Juan River approximately 40 miles east of Farmington, New Mexico.

“This contract will bring full functionality to the 30-inch hollow jet system that releases water from Navajo Dam," said Upper Colorado Regional Director Brent Rhees. “That will allow us to more efficiently release low flows from the dam compared to using the auxiliary gate. The rehabilitation work will also reduce leakage and conserve water."

Onsite rehabilitation construction will begin mid-September after summer reservoir releases end. Rehabilitation and construction work will be completed by March 31, 2019, to meet spring reservoir releases.
