Payette River flows increasing to support irrigation and salmon migration

The following news_release was published by the Bureau of Reclamation on June 14, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

BOISE, Idaho - The Bureau of Reclamation will begin increasing flows at Cascade and Deadwood dams June 14 to meet irrigation needs and provide additional water for salmon migration in the lower Snake and Columbia rivers.

Flows are anticipated to support recreational floating on the North Fork and South Fork Payette rivers. However, dry conditions will likely result in lower river stages and shorter rafting season this summer.

As of June 7, the runoff volume in the Payette River basin is 58% of normal, meaning Cascade and Deadwood reservoirs are not expected to fill completely this year. Water users should expect lower than normal reservoir elevations and use caution when recreating.

For real-time Boise and Payette river flow information, please visit Reclamation’s Columbia-Pacific Northwest Region’s hydromet website at https://www.usbr.gov/pn/hydromet/boipaytea.html.
