CINCINNATI, OH - Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the unprecedented raid of former President Trump’s residence:
“The surprise FBI search of former President Trump’s personal residence is unprecedented. Never has a former president and potential political opponent to the sitting president been subject to such a search.
“The Attorney General and the FBI should now demonstrate unprecedented transparency and explain to the American people why they authorized the raid.
“I call on Chairman Peters to utilize the broad jurisdiction of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which includes jurisdiction over the National Archives and Records Administration, to perform oversight on this issue and ensure transparency."
