Presentation & Discussion Regarding the National Prescription Drug Epidemic

WHAT:

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Simi Valley Police Department, and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library have joined forces to provide an educational and provocative presentation followed by a panel discussion for teens and adults regarding opiate abuse and the effect on our communities. The event will feature “Chasing the Dragon," a documentary film that profiles the stories of several people who either abused opiates or had family members become addicts. A panel discussion made up of law enforcement, healthcare professionals, parents, and a recovering drug addict will follow with questions from community members. A FBI representative will moderate the panel discussion. DEA Acting Administrator Robert W. Patterson will serve as the keynote speaker and will be available for media interviews. Other senior DEA and Simi Valley Police Department representatives will be available to the media. On average, 174 people per day die from drug overdose, more people die from opioid-related causes than from gun homicides, and every 25 minutes a baby is born in the U.S. suffering from opiate withdrawal.
