While it is true that disruptions to our Nation’s energy flow often cross state borders, the response and mitigation actions that are taken to accelerate restoration, and get communities back on their feet begin with state and local government.
The State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial (SLTT) Energy Assurance Program, within our Infrastructure Security and Energy Restoration (ISER) Division of the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (OE), seeks to improve the resilience and security of our Nation’s energy supply through the strengthening of the public-private partnership in the energy sector. The program maintains relationships and builds the capacity of state energy offices, emergency management agencies, utility commissions, state legislatures, and governors’ offices across all 50 states, four territories, and the District of Columbia. We are constantly looking to develop tools and resources, identify useful data sources, and improve planning ability to better position these organizations to prepare for and respond to energy emergencies. ISER recognizes the important role these government entities play in ensuring reliable and affordable energy to their local homes and businesses.
The 2017 SLTT Energy Assurance Year-in-Review, which is available for downloading, provides a snapshot of initiatives that DOE’s SLTT stakeholders took part in to make the energy sector more resilient to natural and man-made attacks.
Some of the aforementioned activities from 2017 include the coordination and response to Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, and the execution of OE’s flagship exercise, Clear Path V.
